Podcast to YouTube Shorts: convert an episode in 4 steps (34 real runs counted)

A podcast microphone and sound wave turning into short vertical video clips

To turn a podcast episode into YouTube Shorts, paste the episode link or upload the file into a clip maker, set the speech language, and keep the three to five clips it picks. You do not have to cut the episode first.

That is the short answer. Below are the four steps, and what 34 real podcast runs looked like.

Four steps

  1. Paste the YouTube link or upload the video file. Free accepts sources up to 120 minutes, which covers most episodes.
  2. Choose the language of the speech. A wrong language gives wrong subtitles, and that is the most common reason a podcast clip looks broken.
  3. Wait for the clips. Open each one and watch the first 3 seconds. A podcast clip lives or dies on its opening line; if it starts mid-thought, trim the start in the editor.
  4. Download the clips you would post. Keep two or three, not all of them.

A longer step-by-step version is in how to make YouTube Shorts from a podcast, and you can start right away with the podcast episode to Shorts tool.

What 34 podcast runs looked like

Between 3 October and 2 November 2026, 34 podcast episodes were processed by Vyexa and finished with at least one clip (our own test accounts excluded). Together they gave 126 clips, 3.7 per episode.

How long the episodes were:

  • under 30 minutes: 19
  • 30 to 60 minutes: 9
  • over 60 minutes: 6

The longest was 87 minutes. A clip run took 5 minutes on average, and the longest ones 12 to 17 minutes, so start it and come back later.

Longer episodes did not always give more clips. Two episodes of about an hour gave 1 clip each, while a 49-minute one gave 5. The count depends on how many self-contained moments there are, not on length. A podcast where people talk over each other gives fewer usable moments than one with clear answers to questions.

What makes a podcast clip work

  • One question and one answer. A clip that needs the last five minutes to make sense does not work as a Short.
  • A first sentence that states the point. Check it before you post.
  • Subtitles on. Many people watch Shorts without sound.
  • Your own judgment on the final pick. A clip maker finds moments by speech and scene changes; it does not know your audience. We have not measured how many clips creators keep, so we give no figure for it.

Limits

Clips on the Free plan carry a watermark. You can remove it from a single clip for a one-time payment, without a subscription.
