How to turn a long YouTube video into Shorts: what a real run gives you (818 clips counted)

To turn a long YouTube video into Shorts, paste the link into a clip maker, let it pick the moments with the strongest speech, and keep the 3 to 5 it gives you. You do not need to cut anything by hand first.
That is the short answer. Here is what it looks like in numbers, from our own data.
What 30 days of real runs look like
Between 1 and 31 October 2026 Vyexa made 818 finished clips from 159 source videos. That is 5.1 clips per video. These counts include our own test accounts, so treat them as a picture of the tool, not of any one creator.
How long the clips are:
- under 20 seconds: 241 (29%)
- 20 to 40 seconds: 425 (52%)
- 40 to 60 seconds: 86 (11%)
- over 60 seconds: 66 (8%)

So most clips land between 20 and 40 seconds. That fits a Short. About 1 in 12 runs longer than a minute, so check the length before you post to a channel that caps at 60 seconds.
Steps
- Paste the YouTube link or upload the file. Free accepts sources up to 120 minutes.
- Pick the language of the speech. A wrong language setting gives wrong subtitles.
- Wait for the clips. Open each one, watch the first 3 seconds. If the opening line is weak, trim the start in the editor.
- Download the ones you would actually post. Delete the rest; five good ones beat twenty mediocre ones.
What to expect and what not
A clip maker finds moments by speech and scene changes. It does not know your audience. Expect to pick, not to publish everything. We have not measured how many clips people keep, so we give no figure for it.
Clips made on the Free plan carry a watermark. You can remove it from a single clip for a one-time payment, without a subscription.
If the link will not import, see our article on the reasons YouTube links fail.
