Why auto subtitles misspell your name, brand and guests, and how to fix it once

A misspelled subtitle line being corrected by a short word list

Auto subtitles get your name wrong because speech recognition writes what it hears, and it has never heard your name. The fix is to tell it the words in advance. In Vyexa you do that once, on the My brand page, and every new video uses the list.

Below: why it happens, what helps and what does not.

Why recognition misspells exactly the words you care about

A speech model is trained on a huge amount of everyday speech. Common words it knows well. Your channel name, your product, your guest's surname, a game title or a niche term may be rare or absent in what it learned. So it picks the closest familiar spelling: a brand turns into two ordinary words, a surname loses a letter, an English name inside non-English speech is written in the local alphabet.

The bad part is where these errors land. A wrong common word is easy to read past. A wrong name sits in the title and in the subtitles of every clip, and it is the word your viewers know best.

The fix: give recognition a word list

Most recognition models accept a hint: a short piece of text that tells them which words to expect. Vyexa calls it «Words in your videos».

  1. Open My brand in your dashboard.
  2. In «Words in your videos», list the words separated by commas, written exactly as they should appear, capital letters included. For example: your name, the channel, the product, regular guests, game titles.
  3. Press Save words. Upload your next video as usual.

It is free on every plan, Free included. The list holds up to 40 words or names.

What it does and what it does not

  • It works for videos uploaded after you save the list. Videos that are already processed are not recognized again. Upload the video again, or fix a word by hand in the clip editor.
  • It is a hint, not find-and-replace. A word that is barely audible, cut off, or said with a heavy accent can still come out wrong.
  • It does not translate and does not change the subtitle language.
  • Keep the list short. Put in the words that actually get misheard. Common words do not need to be there, and a long list of things you never say helps nothing.

We have not measured yet how much the list reduces errors, so we give no figure for it. Check it on your own next video: if a name is still wrong, compare the spelling in the list with how it should look.
