How to hide any word in your clips: a competitor, a nickname, your own slang

To hide a specific word in your clips, not just swearing, add it to your own censor list. In Vyexa that is a field in Settings right under the profanity toggle: list the words, keep the toggle on, and every new clip masks them in the subtitles and bleeps them in the audio.

Below: when you need it, how to fill the list so it catches every form of a word, and what it does not do.

When a built-in swear filter is not enough

A swear filter knows swear words. It does not know the words that are a problem for you:

  • a competitor's or a sponsor's name that you do not want to promote for free;
  • a nickname, a real surname or a place that should not end up in a public clip;
  • slang that your platform or your audience treats as offensive, but no dictionary does;
  • a word that is fine in your language and rude in your viewers' language.

Cutting each of them by hand means finding every mention in every clip. A list does it in one place.

How to set it up

  1. Open Settings in your dashboard and turn on profanity censoring. It is off by default, and your own words only work while it is on.
  2. In «Your own words to censor», list the words separated by commas. One word per entry: a phrase of two words will not match, so list each word on its own.
  3. To catch every form of a word, put * at the end. damn* also hides damned and damnit. In languages with many endings, such as Polish, Ukrainian or Russian, this is the way to cover them all.
  4. Save. Make new clips as usual.

Up to 100 words. It is available on every plan, Free included.

What it does and what it does not

  • In the subtitles the word keeps its first and last letter, the rest becomes stars: N**e. In the audio that moment is muted and replaced with a beep.
  • It works on subtitles and audio. The clip title is not censored. If a word must not be in the title, edit the title or turn titles off.
  • It works on clips made after you save the list. Finished clips do not change; regenerate them if you need the new list applied.
  • It relies on speech recognition. If a word was recognized as something else, it will not be caught. For names that recognition gets wrong, add the correct spelling to your word list on the My brand page as well.
  • Nothing is cut from the video. The clip keeps its length; only the word is hidden.

We have not measured how often custom words appear in real clips, so we give no figure for it.

Try it: add your words in Settings, then paste a link at vyexa.net. Free needs no card.
